Heritage Open Days
is England's largest community led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history. Stories are told, traditions explored, and histories brought to life. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.

Eye Market Town Heritage Open Days
Eye is steeped in history and dates back to Saxon times when the area was used as a burial ground. The name Eye derives from the old English word meaning Island,land by water.It is thought that the first settlement on the site was almost surrounded by water and marshland formed by the river Dove and its tributaries. With over one hundred listed buildings and a Castle the Market Town has so much to offer visitors to the Eye Heritage Open Days in September.
The Eye Town Council support Heritage Days and open buildings for the event. It is a community event that is also supported by local businesses and residents who look forward to your visit this September.
Streets Aloud is back!
Join us during Heritage Open Days Weekend for a second chance to experience our audio trail of Eye
Starting at The Bank Arts Centre, join us for a 30-minute circular walk around the town of Eye. Along the way, a digital tuning dial scans the imaginary airwaves picking up memories of shops and parties, celebrations of ancient buildings, sounds from nature, plus beautiful, informative and funny poems specially written by local school pupils.
Join us as for an immersive experience as we pop on our headphones and take a unique walk around the town of Eye.

Pop Up Museum
The Eye Heritage Open Days Festival is back and it's bringing the Pop Up Museum with it! On Sunday, September 8th from 12 pm to 4 pm, come and explore the historic Eye Town Hall and discover a variety of fascinating displays. With surprises around every corner, this is an event you won't want to miss!

Visit to Eye Airfield
Welcome to Eye Airfield in Suffolk! You can visit any time of the year, but we highly encourage attending the Eye Heritage Open Days Festival and Remembrance Sunday when wreaths are laid. Our airfield has three walks with orientation boards and two memorials. You can find maps on the HODS website. Don't miss the chance to ride from the Eye Town Hall in a 1942 USAAF Jeep to the Eye Airfield and back for a £5 donation on Saturday and Sunday, 7th and 8th September. To book visit the events page.
The Castleton Brass Band
Join us for an unforgettable experience at the Eye Heritage Open Days Festival! The Castleton Brass Band will be performing live at the Eye Town Hall on Sunday, September 15th at 3 pm. This event is free for all residents, visitors, and volunteers of the festival. Don't miss out on the opportunity enjoy the beautiful sounds of brass music in a historic setting.

In 2024 we will be celebrating how people and ideas have moved around and come together throughout history. The transport routes, communication networks, trade unions and social clubs. The travellers who have spread ideas and the hosts who welcome them. There are so many stories on our doorsteps just waiting to be uncovered.

Routes - Connections - Networks is the theme for Eye Heritage Open Days this year. We are actively looking for groups, organisation or Schools to join with us for this prestigious annual event.
